The Hungry Years

I'm a college freshman. I think these are the beginning of my hungry years. I'm always hungry, but never seem to be able to afford food.

I eat sunflower seeds a lot.

I know it will be worth it in the end, though.

I had a nice day!

Today was a good day.

I went to a music theory colloquium. It was actually very interesting. We learned about how the brain processes music.

My best friend, Levi, came and picked me up at school. We went out for lunch, and I had the best salad.

Tonight my sister and I went to dad's house. He made us dinner, and we watched movies. It was very fun. : )

Oh, and the theory exam went well today.

All in all, a very nice day.

The Hours

I finished The Hours yesterday, and I absolutely loved it. I waited so long to read this novel, but the wait was so worth it.

I read Mrs. Dalloway last summer, and it was interesting to see how much Michael Cunningham drew from Mrs. Dalloway. I really liked how Cunningham had the three-part structure.

The language was very, very beautiful. Cunningham captures Virginia Woolf's stream-of-consciousness style very effectively.

The way he wove all three stories together at the end was brilliant.

The Hours won the Pulitzer in 1999, and it's easy to see why. I strongly recommend this novel.

5/5 stars

Back at school

I moved back to school today. It's really good to be back. We start classes on Tuesday.

This semester I'm taking Intro to Biology I. I'm not really sure what to expect, but hopefully it will go well. : )

"Do These Books Make My Butt Look Big?"

This is the other reading challenge I'm doing this year; it will overlap with the TBR Lite challenge.

My books for this challenge are:
1. The Time Traveler's Wife
2. The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay
3. A Fraction of the Whole

More to come, maybe...

Update: I'm past page 100 of The Hours. : ) One goal completed.
